Delayed luggage and the first semi-conscious day

Oh the things we have seen in our first couple days! We did end up getting into Budapest in time to see the last half of the National Gallop in Heroes Square on Sunday and really enjoyed being a part of all the excitement.

The following day things got off to a slow start but quite happily our luggage was found and delivered to our accommodation in Diosd (Elda's friends Michelle and Norm).  Suddenly our clothing choices increased expediently.  Once we were organized Elda, Michelle and I took the bus/tram/subway into Budapest centre.  And what better place to start "sightseeing" than with some shopping at the Central Market. This place is a huge covered market and has a whole floor of food, meat, cheese, etc. stalls.  And crisscrossing this on the upper level are all the souvenirs, craft and handiwork vendors.  Amazing leather and linens! Might just have to come back before leaving and make a couple purchases.

Michelle had some other commitments mid-day and early evening so we took advantage of the time and had a wonderful wander through the Varosliget park neighbourhood, including going back to investigate the area around Heroes' Square (this time without approximately 50,000 or so other spectators).  We meandered through the park and viewed the exterior of the Vajdahunyad Castle, Jak Church and the Szechenyi Baths.  We then returned to the Sinosz Centre for the Deaf to watch a rehearsal of one of two theatre troops Michelle works with.  Then home again we returned very sleepy but having had a nice day starting to investigate all that Budapest has to offer.
